The Biosphere Credit Standard™ (BCS™) is an integrated nature-based assessment and credit system developed by OurOffset Nonprofit LLC that goes beyond traditional carbon standards.
Its purpose is to support projects that improve biosphere conditions in a scientifically grounded, credible and tradable format.
The system simultaneously focuses on ecological, climate protection and social impacts, and is suitable for both evaluating and supporting new conservation projects and sustainable land use practices.
BCS™ Key Focus Areas:
1. Biodiversity and Ecological Diversity
- Species richness, presence of endemic and endangered species
- Functional and genetic diversity
- Ecological network roles (e.g., pollinators, keystone species)
2. Carbon Sequestration and Climate Protection
- Soil carbon and biomass-based CO₂ absorption
- Land-use change (LUC) analyses, scenario-based comparison
- Integration of CH₄ and N₂O impacts
3. Ecosystem Integrity
- Habitat continuity, landscape ecological connections
- Resistance to natural disturbances
- Ecosystem services such as water retention, soil regeneration
4. Local Community Benefits and Social Acceptance
- Community engagement, decision-making and social impact
- Education, job creation, SDG alignment
- Participatory monitoring and feedback
5. Scientific Monitoring and Evaluation
- Field and remote sensing data collection (e.g., drone, Sentinel, NDVI)
- Soil analysis, eDNA and microbial activity
- Modeled values based on validated sources (IPCC, FAO, COMET-Planner)
6. Credit Generation and Assessment Model
- Multi-dimensional “hectare-year” based assessment
- Weighted scoring and multipliers: species protection, carbon, social impact
- Transparent, auditable calculation system
7. International Compliance and Compatibility
- Alignment with IUCN, IPBES, IPCC, CBD, LDN, TNFD/SBTN, CSRD/ESRS
- VCM compatibility (Verra, Gold Standard)
8. Verification and Auditing
- Independent verification bodies (VVB)
- BCS™ Registry: tokenization, record-keeping, transparency
- Loss reserve, protection against duplication
What can the Biosphere Credit Standard™ (BCS™) be used for?
- Generating BCS™ Credits and Carbon Credits from nature-based projects
- Certification of ecosystem restoration and conservation projects
- Supporting ESG/CSRD compliance
- Evaluation of sustainability projects with social impact
